Brewin Dolphin Scottish Series Launch 2010 Event

Shirley Robertson launches Brewin Dolphin Scottish Series 2010

The launch of the Brewin Dolphin Scottish Series 2010 took place today (8 January) at the London Boat Show.  Olympic gold medallist Shirley Robertson OBE joined organisers, the Clyde Cruising Club, to celebrate their centenary year and support the launch of Scotland’s largest yachting regatta.

Howard Morrison, Commodore of the Clyde Cruising Club, commented: “As the Club celebrates 100 years of promoting sailing, it seems apt that we are also launching one of our flagship events.  The Brewin Dolphin Scottish Series has historically offered a thrilling date in the sailing calendar and the 2010 event is set to keep to the same high standard.”

 

 

Robertson celebrates Clyde Cruising Club centenary at the London International Boat Show

The 2010 Brewin Dolphin Scottish Series takes place during the bank holiday weekend from Friday 28 to Monday 31 May in Tarbert on Scotland’s stunning West Coast.  There are 14 classes on three different race courses as well as pre-regatta Tarbert Inbound Races, which set off from Bangor, Northern Ireland and Inverkip on the West Coast of Scotland.

Thanks to support from EventScotland, the national events agency, Shirley Robertson will act as event ambassador for the second year running, helping to raise the profile of sailing and, more specifically, attracting people to sign up for the Brewin Dolphin Scottish Series.

Robertson says: “Having competed in the Scottish Series myself, I can thoroughly recommend it.  As well as the competitive spirit, there is a real sense of camaraderie that makes everyone feel part of something special.  It’s a fantastic event, held in fabulous surroundings.” 

Title event sponsors, investment managers Brewin Dolphin, have supported the Scottish Series for over ten years. 

Keen yachtsman and Chairman of Brewin Dolphin, Jamie Matheson, said: “Sailing is a high adrenaline sport that has strong social as well as competitive elements to it; and we’re delighted to work with the Clyde Cruising Club to help promote the sport.”

Paul Bush OBE, Chief Operating Officer at EventScotland, the national events agency, said: “Scotland’s spectacular coastline is renowned with sailing enthusiasts around the world.  Dramatic and challenging, Scotland’s waters attract sailors to tour, learn and compete each year.  2010 will be the third year that EventScotland has supported the Brewin Dolphin Scottish Series, an event which showcases the west coast of Scotland to thousands of people with a passion for the sport and their families.

“To have secured Shirley Robertson as ambassador for another year is great news for this fantastic event.  As a double Olympic Gold medalist and a Scot, Shirley is a brilliant spokesperson for Scottish sailing and a great role model for budding young sailors looking to get into the sport.”

In addition to exciting waters and breath-taking scenery, the 2010 Series will offer enhanced amenities as Tarbert harbour and town centre flourish following the town’s successful bid for a £1million Regeneration Initiative Grant.
