Commodore's Welcome

It gives me pleasure to welcome members and guests to this website where you will find information on the wide and varied activities of the Club – I hope you enjoy reading it.

At the AGM in November we heard reports from the main areas of the Club and overall the Club is thriving on many fronts.

We have new printers lending a fresh style to Tidelines as well as the Journal and Yearbook under the newly elected editor, Colin Craig. We have a new arrangement with Imrays to publish the Sailing Directions under Edward Mason’s editorship with enhanced improvements taken across from Martin Lawrence’s sailing directions – we are extremely grateful that Martin decided to assign his copyright over to the Club earlier this year. Edward’s first combined edition of the revised Firth of Clyde Sailing Directions has just been printed and is available now.

Ian Macdonald took over editorship of the Club’s Centenary Book –‘ The First One Hundred Years’ – at the beginning of the summer. It is currently being printed and will be posted to members early in the New Year.

The Dinghy Section at Bardowie ran over 200 courses during the summer as well as many races for Club members and visitors – many Dinghy Section members won trophies and prizes at events around the country too - by the way, did you know that the Club owns more than 60 boats at Bardowie?

My congratulations go to all the Club’s cruising, log and racing prize-winners, but particularly to: David and Sue Mackay (Sunflower Salver) who recently completed their second world circumnavigation in Voyageur; Stuart MacDonald (CCA Trophy) for his single handed voyage in Beyond through the Panama Canal (with help!) and on to New Zealand in time for the Rugby World Cup; Iain and Graham Thomson (John Rodger Trophy) and crew in Sloop John T for their magnificent overall win in the Swan European Championships at Cowes; Richard and Paul Harris (Ferrier Seamanship Trophy) and crew in Tanit for their excellent seamanship in rescuing another yacht’s crew member in 30 knot winds and awkward seas in the English Channel during the Round the Island Race. All are a great credit to the Club.

Preparations are well under way for next year’s cruising and racing events including of course the Brewin Dolphin Scottish Series over the Jubilee holiday weekend in June – watch the website for further information www.brewindolphinscottishseries.com

As I write most yachts are tucked away and the dark nights are upon us –I wish all readers a happy and enjoyable time over the festive season and good sailing in 2012 wherever that may be.
